The Most Chic Elements

Calvet chairs, to"discover" the culture of Barcelona The seats in the reception of the hotel are a replica of those designed by Antonio Gaudí that may be visited in Casa Calvet's Meeting Room. They are made of oak and are unusual in that they have one single support linking the seat to the backrest. This is made up of five pieces at angles to each other that achieve a comfortable concavity which adapts itself to the individual's back. The sinuous, trapezoidal form and fine central decoration, based on circular patterns and engrained coffee beans, give it a smooth line. The seat, slightly lowered to make it more adaptable, has five aligned holes to prevent the user from slipping. The edges of the rear parts of the seat and its back are smoothed to give them and elegant and sinuous profile. The rear legs are on enough of an incline to make it stable. |

More modernism.... Wall, Doors and the Roof The modernist mural designed by Lourdes Vázquez presides at the wardenship of the hotel. The work is in keeping with a contemporary and modern aesthetic, typical of the stylistic rules of the time. The design that has been implemented coordinates perfectly with the surrounding walls: the dab of colour that it represents provides a contrast with the rigidity - despite their elegance - of the materials present in the lobby by introducing the organic shapes, completely undefined floral patterns and visual movement characteristic of modernist Barcelona. All the elements used in the design, as well as the colour and the organic shapes, are evocative of Gaudí's famous and important style and are representative of Barcelona. Furthermore, the pictorial style is absolutely flat, giving an absolute tendency. |

The design is also in keeping with Catalan Modernism, which is a movement that is present in a large number of streetlights, including in Letrero, at the Liceo metro station and on Las Ramblas itself. The glass doors of the bathrooms of the rooms have been designed by BM following the ways of the master Gaudí. Similarly, the ceiling of the lobby is decorated with a mosaic in waves inspired by the sea in Barcelona following the technique of the catalan artist. |
